  • Retention depends on many factors:

Part of understanding retention is understanding about the lash growth cycle. The lash cycle is approximately 6-8 weeks long, and within that cycle there are 3 sub-cycles of where the growth stage of each lash may fall under. A lash in the Anagen phase, will last longer than one in the Catagen or Telogen phases. These lashes will shed regardless of aftercare efforts. This is completely normal. If your hair grows quickly, it is a good indicator that your natural lashes will also renew themselves quicker

Other factors that impact retention: products used by the salon, products you use for makeup and cleansing, how oily your skin is, if you follow after-care instructions, the position you sleep in, and your activities.

Based on all these individual factors, it is recommended to get refills every 2-3 weeks to maintain the fullest look possible.

  • Our lashes and adhesive will not damage your lashes…but we have seen extreme breakage or damage, similar to fried hair ends, with clients coming in from other lash studios. However, you can rest assured that your lashes will not be damaged or break off from our products.

Here’s why: An experienced extensionist will only work with top quality products, not use excessive primer/glue/bonder. If you choose a style with longer or denser lashes than what your natural lashes can withstand, it adds constant tension to them, as you are wearing them 24/7 throughout all your activities. Another factor is whether or not you touch them, pull at them, scratch them, or sleep on them because friction can cause breakage. Any activity causing friction to your lashes can cause breakage, but that does not necessarily mean it was due to the products.

  • We use the highest quality Korean PBT Fiber to manufacture our personalized line of lash extensions. They are lightweight, natural-looking, and matte. Matte eyelashes offer a much richer look, as compared to the shiny, plastic looking lashes 95% of salons use because they are cheaper.

We do not use real mink lashes for the following reasons:

First and foremost, it is unethical and not something that Lash & Brow Atelier will support. There is no such thing as cruelty-free mink fur. The fact is that these poor animals endure immense fear, stress, disease, parasites, food/water deprivation, and a myriad of other physical and psychological hardships they undergo from being skinned alive or killed in gas chambers. If that doesn’t move you, then here are the reasons why you shouldn’t want real mink lashes anyway:

Mink fur is naturally straight and will not keep a curl

Mink fur lashes tend to get frizzy when moist or wet

Once removed from the mink animal, the fur will no longer produce the natural oils that made them slick and smooth

Mink fur extensions are not all the same length, thickness, color, sheen, or texture because they grow in various growth cycles and come from multiple animals. This leaves a very undesirable look.

Additionally, since they are made from real animal fur, many clients report allergic reactions from mink lashes.

For all the aforementioned reasons, we stand with PETA on banning the use of real fur lashes in the eyelash extension industry.

  • Mascara - No. Lash extensions offer a bolder enhanced look in length and volume than mascara alone can offer. Mascara on lash extensions should be avoided because it will cause them to fall out prematurely, will add weight to your extensions causing potential damage or breakage to your own lashes, the mascara applicator may pull off your extensions, and clump your volume fans together, altering your achieved signature style in an unflattering way. However, you can use mascara on your bottom lashes. Just be sure to stay away from waterproof mascara as makeup removers that would remove it would likely loosen your glue bonds on the upper lash line,

Eyeliner - It is generally not necessary to use eyeliner on the upper lash line, as the lashes automatically give you that effect. However, if you want to use eyeliner, we recommend a felt tip pen liner and to avoid thick pencil or gel liners. You also want to try not to smudge it into your upper lash line, as buildup will impact your retention. You can apply eyeliner to the lower lash line or water line as desired, but do avoid any oil-based makeup removers.

Eye shadow - Powder eyeshadow is not a problem by itself. However, eye shadow primers and cream to powder shadows can be an issue if applied too close to the lash line, which will impact retention. Always use makeup removers that are not oil-based.

For face wash, we recommend CeraVe normal to oily formula or Baby Magic Soap. Both do a good job of safely removing makeup.

  • Yes. We use a bonder to help cure the eyelash glue faster. You can wash your face the same day you get your lashes done, but be sure to gently pat them dry immediately afterwards. After the first 24 hours, you can resume exercise, swimming, or spa sessions. It is recommended to wait those first 24 hours before exposing your lashes to steam or sweat.

  • We recommend getting a full set 2 weeks prior to the event. This should allow time to get used to having them, learning the after-care process, and ensuring you have no allergies to the products used. Then, we recommend getting a refill 1-3 days prior to your event to achieve the fullest and freshest look. *Special note: Currently, there are no reports of allergic reactions to the products we use.

  • It is important to understand that we naturally lose 3-5 lashes per day, without lash extensions. However, we normally do not notice this shedding because our own lashes are so fine. When you lose an eyelash with an extension attached, it is much more noticeable in length, darkness, and thickness. So, the 3-5 lashes per day you used to lose and never noticed, become much more noticeable now. Also, if you are getting used to lashes for the first time, you may be getting adjusted to after-care and managing sleep positions that won’t negatively impact your retention.

  • There are so many variables that can affect your look from one refill to the next. As mentioned above, your lash cycle can last between 6-8 weeks and there are 3 phases within that cycle that grow at different times. Therefore, it really depends on what phase your lashes are in that have the most length and width to the lashes. This could also impact retention, if you are in a phase with much shorter lashes that are weak.

  • Yes. Licensed lash extension salons are experienced in removing eyelash adhesive with a special product to gently dissolve the bond. The procedure takes between 20-30 minutes and is not uncomfortable at all. It is never recommended to try over-the-counter remover or to do it yourself, as you could end up damaging or losing many of your natural lashes.

  • No

Here’s why: We bond the extension to the base of the lash and pack them fairly full. A good lash extensionist will also make sure to get the lashes closest to your water line so that the first row of lashes are covered by an extension, and the blond doesn’t show through.
